Adam Silver was born on the 25th of April 1962 in Rye which was a northern suburb of New York in the Westchester County.

He was born into a Jewish-American family, to his now deceased father Edward Silver, who was also a lawyer and senior partner at the law firm Proskauer Rose and specialized in Labor Law. Adam Silver attended Rye High school and graduated in 1980.

Afterwards he enrolled in Duke University, where he was part of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Adam Silver graduated from there in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He then attended the University of Chicago Law School, graduating in 1988 with a J.D degree.
